Sharks are a valuable resource in the Philippines.

Out of over 1,000 species of sharks*, about 200 species are found in the Philippines, and 23% may be new records or undescribed species. Recognizing the important role that sharks play in the ecology and economy, the Philippine government and civil society organizations have been working together to conserve sharks.
